A BUST OF A NUBIAN OR UPPER EGYPT GIRL

By Ashraquet Fakhry

"That story is actually told by my dad: in 1970, a family member was visiting Luxor and Aswan and when they came back to Asyut, they had brought several souvenirs including that bust of the Nubian girl, the bust is still at our home since then hanged on the wall, it was moved from its place three times, and the third move was today to take a photo of it...you see those broken parts? it is because of the 1992 earthquake in Egypt, It has fallen on the floor but still, I really love how it looks with those broken parts. when we were young we thought it is a bust of the Gawaher the singer (جواهر ). Today I discovered something interesting to me which is if people of Luxor and Aswan used to buy such souvenirs that really look like them and show their identity, I wonder why today most of the souvenirs' shops in Luxor and Aswan only sell commercial souvenirs like what we see today."
